There Should Be No "Back to School" for Adults
Things are abuzz with "back to school" everything right now - it's typical and expected. But here's a simple but important thought: adults, especially leaders of family enterprises or families of affluence, should never return to school. They should never leave. Now clearly we're not talking about the traditional expression of "school." What we're talking about is the student mindset; the desire to learn more about the things that will make a difference in their lives, even if they don't like learning it! One of the traps of success is the Success Bias. It works simply: I've been really successful at "this" so I'll be really successful at "that." The plus of this bias is confidence - that's good. The downside is that we can start to believe that we've learned what we need to learn to be successful. That we're done. That we just need to do more, rather than do better. The other thing to keep in mind is that, especially during sluggish economies or industry slowdowns, investing in education can provide some real returns. When downturns hit, a lot of people end up re-tooling and education often booms. Regardless of how things are going, stay in school. Keep reading. Keep talking with us about wealth - how to protect it, grow it, preserve it, pass it on intelligently. School never ends for the successful.
